My roommate and I get along fabulously. My roommate's name is Elizabeth Gates and is from Mayfield, NY which is in the Adirondack Park. She has one younger brother, so she has also never shared a room before. I think that we are both adjusting to the move fairly well and sharing the room quite well. It has been fun getting to see how differently we both grew up and how she thinks that I am from such big town! She lives in a very rural town, so I'm sure if she comes to visit Buffalo she will think its crazy. She is a vegetarian, so she won't be able to sample our many native foods of Buffalo such as wings, Teds, and Andersons. But my mom is bringing up sponge candy for her to sample because she has never even heard of it! So we have had fun getting to know each other and sharing our own little quirks and such.
As promised before here are some pictures of our dorm room. We got really lucky and were blessed to have a sink in our room. None of the other rooms have a sink, but we traded a big closet for the sink. But that is a decent trade in my book. We don't have to leave the room to brush our teeth, wash our hands, or wash our dishes. It is very convenient.
Here is the view from standing in the door way. You are looking at Beth's bed straight ahead and my bed to the right. On the left of the picture is our only wardrobe, but we also have a little chest with a couple of drawers.
Here is a picture of my bed, which would be the continuation on the right of the last picture.
At the foot of my bed is the TV and then my desk is behind it, with Beth's desk next to mine.
This is my roommate Beth, sitting at her desk next to mine which is right by the door to our room.
And to end the tour of our room, this is our little kitchen area, which is to the right of the wall behind Beth. It is very nice, we have our fridge there, a sink and all of our toiletry products have found a home there.
Lots of other things have happened this week. I got a job right away at the job fair. The Library hired me right on the spot, so I will now be working in the Reserve, interlibrary loan and serials department. I work 8.5 hours a week and it is a very easy job. I sit at the desk and am able to do my homework when there are no patrons to take care of. So it is the perfect job.
Here are two pictures of the library so that you all can see where I work.
Beth and I ventured out into the world a couple of times to go on some random errands. We went to Wegmans, the original!!, because Beth had never been to a Wegmans before. We also went to Target, Linens and Things and Staples. We had fun on our adventures and were able to pick up the things that we needed.
Last night we had a really fun event on campus. We had a "drive in" movie on the lawn in front of the Galisano building. They had this big blow up screen and every one brought their blankets and sat out on the lawn and enjoyed the movie. Last nights movies were Blades of Glory and Reno 911. We only stayed for Blades of Glory because we weren't really interesting in Reno 911 and it was getting pretty chilly. But it was a really funny movie and a really good time was had by all. Below is a picture of the Galisano building where I have most of my classes and a picture of the lawn where the movie was held. The tree on the right hand side of the picture is where we sat for the movie. It was a great spot to be able to lean against the tree!
So that is pretty much my first week at Naz. I have my first paper due this Wednesday, so let the work begin right?!?! Sorry that some of the pictures are sideways, but thats just the way that they wanted to be. Hope you enjoyed hearing about all
my first week of college.
